To rewrite or not …

Posted by – August 22, 2006

Throughout the last year or so the people from Microsoft have been trying hard to convince the general public (and especially their now frustrated waiting customers) that an almost complete rewrite was needed to make Windows Vista… But how much of that is actually true?

Why would a software company with the best driver and legacy support in their product make a complete rewrite? It doesn’t give much sense, does it? Well, many people have had their say on this topic, check out: 1, 2, 3, … and so on!

But one thing is certain – some code will be reused… They just proved that when Windows Vista entered the MS Patch threadmill – hit by the exactly same bugs as Windows XP in their new safe/rewritten with their new safe principles operating system: Enter The patch Threadmill :)

On another, and equally sad, note my CPU is still delayed again and again from Proshop.dk … Every week it is just the same mail, only a new delay date – Amateurs are never in short supply on the net, unfortunately!

Another domain…

I needed some more place online and therefore I have registered a new domain to play with today. The domain is dataloger.biz – expect nothing on it for a while :)

On another note: Finally farmers have stopped their eternal whining and made something useful with their sparetime… The FireFox logo as a crop circle! How cool is that? :-D

Yet more delay!

You know those shops online that promise you that they have what you need in stock, and then once you place your order… BANG! Whooops! … And then you just receive mail after mail hearing how they are once again delayed for up to a week. This time around the problem is with Proshop.dk, who has my new CPU …

With all the rain and thunder in Denmark these days why can’t God spare a lightning bolt or two and smite those cursed computer saleshops out of his benevolent rage… Just a level 4 or level 5 lightning bolt should suffice!

Almost ready…

Now all I need for my new computer is the delayed CPU and RAM, and then I should be ready to assemble this great toy.

In the mean time I’m rather busy at work, handing over the project I’ve been working on since the beginning of april. Now I am just looking forward to going to my friend, Uffe’s 25 years birthday this evening with Anita and get a couple of beers.

I am slowly beginning to feel that I need to begin developing in other environments than SAP. So I am currently looking for a sparetime project in C#/C++ to enable me to brush up on my skills in that department. Perhaps some .Net-coding? Time will show :)

Found me a temporary GFX-card

After a small discussion with Sme I decided on a temporary graphics card while I eagerly awaits the new generation of DirectX10 cards… The flavour of the month was:
